7/23/10 - Homestead Race Report
« on: July 27, 2010, 10:31:57 AM »

Race Replay (available up to 1 week after the race)

The FLR Facet-Purolator Trucks continued the chase for the season 2 championship last Friday night at the Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Miami 250.

Mitchell Hunt continued his streak of pole positions with a blistering 32.417 qualifying lap.  Starting outside Mitchell was Joe Slama with a 32.514.  Hunt got off to a fast start leading, for the most part, the first 20 laps before Joe Slama reeled him in on lap 21.  Joe led the next several laps before the 2nd caution of the night on lap 33.  Most of the field took advantage of the caution for fresh tires and a full tank of fuel.

Pit stops enabled Hunt to regain the lead on the restart.  Pit road adjustments allowed him to retain that lead for the next 40 laps or so.  A couple cautions during that period came from self-spins, the final coming on lap 75, which again brought the entire field down pit road for fresh tires and fuel.

On the restart it appeared several teams made good adjustments during their pits.  Christopher Shetzler, being one of them, was able to get out front and lead a large pack for a few laps before AJ Beckwith said excuse me and made his way to the front for a few laps.  Mitchell Hunt then regained the lead for a few laps before Jeremy Cross came up front to lead several laps.  At this point it seemed perhaps Hunt was losing his momentum as the best battle of the night raged on between several trucks for the lead.

This battle went on until the last caution of the night waved on lap 106.  This was the point of the race that Hunt must have made his critical adjustment as he would eventually get past Cross and Sheltzer for the lead, one he never relinquished.

Congratulations on the win Mitchell and to our top 5 finishers:

1. Mitchell Hunt
2. Joe Slama
3. Jeremy Cross
4. Christopher Shetzler
5. Lance Williams

Race Review
Below is a list of the incidents that brought out a caution. If you feel you were involved in an incident not listed below, such as someone running you into the wall, please contact us using the incident review form here... You must be logged into the main site to access that form. You can also PM me in the forum here, but it will get to all admins immediately if you use the form. Other than that, each incident that brought out a caution is listed below. Please read and pay particular attention to those incidents that involved you. Anyone who reaches 80 penalty points will be parked one week and anyone reaching 120 will be parked for the season (seasons are looking like they will be 12 weeks, following the official iRacing series).

Anyone wishing to appeal a warning below can do so here... The league admins and race stewards will then take your appeal into consideration, watch the replay again and make a final decision. Please do not post appeals in the forum. Incidents where a car clearly wrecks someone in a turn or elsewhere are automatic 2x penalties. Self-spins involving damage to other vehicles are also automatic 2x penalties. Laps below are all laps the leader was on at the time of the incident. Laps noted are the lap the leader was on at the time of the incident, not necessarily the lap the car involved was on.

You must accept or protest any warnings with your name on them below. Accept by replying to this thread stating you accept your penalty. File an appeal as instructed above.

Total Penalties (number of penalties in parenthesis) - Points if any:

Lap 2:  Ron Hilling and Bobby keeth make contact sending Ron into the wall in T3.  This is too difficult for me to blame on any one driver as it looks like Ron had to duck down a bit to avoid a slow car up high and Bobby ran his normal line for the most part.- Racing Deal.

Lap 33:  Jason Sherrill self-spin #1 loses it entering the pit access road, spinning back onto the track into other trucks - Warning Jason Sherrill - 2x.

Lap 43:  Jason Sherrill self-spin #2 and Corey Card self-spin #1 both spin in/out of T2.  I don’t know if Jason’s spinning truck caused Corey to flinch, sending him spinning into the wall or what.  It doesn’t look like any other cars were involved, so we’ll just call this a 1x for each driver - Warning Jason Sherrill - 1x - Warning Corey Card - 1x.  Jason’s initial spin did not bring out the caution, so he was able to continue racing.

Lap 49:  Fred Phillips get loose out of T2 and ends up getting into Jeff Ramsdell who wrecks - Warning Fred Phillips - 2x.

Lap 75:  Jason Sherrill self-spin #2 - Warning Jason Sherrill 2x.  Thanks for parking after your 2nd Jason.

Lap 106:  Michael Moose pulls of the track and parks, causing a caution.  Please folks, stop doing this!!!  I can see Michael tried to pull well off the track, however it still brought out a caution.  If you have to park, pull on to pit road, then stop - Warning Michael Moose 1x.
